code of conduct

 

 

1. Overview

This code applies to all staff, approved volunteers, enrolled students and their parents/carers.


All staff and approved volunteers of Electrix Dance Studio (EDS) are required to observe child safe principles and expectations for appropriate behaviour towards and in the company of children.


2. Principles

Electrix Dance Studio is committed to adhering to fostering a positive and inclusive environment where everyone can learn, grow and express themselves through dance. To maintain this atmosphere, we expect all staff, volunteers, students, parents/carers to adhere to the code of conduct and their set out responsibilities.


3. Values

Our core values reflected in our day to day operations include:

  • Respect

Treat all individuals with kindness, respect and consideration. Avoid discrimination, harassment or bullying in any form.

Treat dance studio facilities, equipment and props with care and respect. Clean up after yourself and help to keep the studio tidy.

  • Honesty and Integrity

Act with honesty and integrity in all interactions. Maintain clear and open communication where possible and appropriate.

  • Responsiveness

Provide high quality services to our dance community.

Identify and promote best practice and continuous improvement.


4. Responsibilities

Staff and approved volunteers are responsible for the following:

  • adhere to the EDS Code of Conduct at all times
  • adhere to the EDS Child Safe Policy at all times
  • adhere to the EDS Privacy Policy at all times
  • adhere to the EDS Complaints Policy at all times
  • take all reasonable steps to protect children from abuse
  • report any child’s safety concerns to the EDS Director
  • if an allegation of child abuse is made, ensure as quickly as possible that the child/ren are safe
  • promote cultural safety, participation and empowerment of all children and their families
  • prioritise safety and wellbeing by following proper technique, warm-up and cool down exercises and safety precautions
  • treat everyone with respect and communicate openly
  • treat EDS property, facilities, equipment and props with care and respect
  • respect the privacy of others and refrain from sharing personal information that may be shared with you in confidence
  • maintain a positive attitude and supportive demeanor
  • maintain appropriate language in the presence of others
  • act with honesty and integrity 
  • embrace feedback and see it as an opportunity for growth
  • ensure that all private lessons are conducted with an open door policy 
  • wear appropriate attire and footwear during classes and rehearsals. Avoid clothing that may be distracting or unsafe
  • maintain professional contact with a child or their family. Contact outside of EDS without the EDS Director’s knowledge and/or consent (for example, babysitting) is not appropriate. Accidental contact, such as seeing people in the street, is appropriate.
  • limit contact to in class only. Online contact with a child or their family (unless necessary, for example providing families with e-newsletters) is not appropriate


Students and Parents/Carers are responsible for the following:

  • adhere to the EDS Code of Conduct at all times
  • communicate openly and respectfully with staff, volunteers and fellow dancers and parents/carers
  • treat everyone with respect
  • respect the privacy of others and refrain from sharing personal information that may be shared with you in confidence
  • treat EDS property, facilities, equipment and props with care and respect
  • strive for continuous improvement in dance skills, techniques and performance
  • embrace feedback from staff and take them as opportunities for growth
  • aide in promoting cultural safety, participation and empowerment for our dance community
  • act with honesty and integrity
  • maintain a positive attitude and provide support to fellow dancers and parents/carers
  • wear appropriate EDS uniform and footwear during classes


Failure to comply with this code of conduct where a staff member (teaching or non-teaching), casual relief staff, volunteers, students and parents/carers are suspected of breaching any obligation, duty or responsibility within this code, EDS will take action, including in the case of serious breaches, dismissal or cessation of enrolment.


5. General Information

·         Parents are not permitted in the dance room unless invited in by the teacher. This is to limit distractions.

·         Parents of new students are invited in to watch on their first lesson.

·         There is to be no smoking inside the complex. If you wish to smoke, you must stand outside of the gate.

·         Parents are asked to refrain from interrupting class times. If there is an issue that needs to be discussed, parents may wait until staff have finished teaching for the night or call to arrange an appropriate time.

·         Students are required to bring their own water bottle that is clearly distinguishable as their own.

·         EDS is only responsible for students during their scheduled class time. Parents are asked to ensure their child is supervised before and after their scheduled class time.

·         In the event that a child cannot make it to their class, a courtesy email is appreciated.

·         It is asked that students be punctual in order to have a proper warm-up. This will reduce the risk of injury and also eliminate classroom interruptions.

·         EDS expects full attendance where possible. This ensures a consistent and progressive term.

·         Before and during any EDS performance, parents are not permitted backstage or in the dressing rooms unless they have been selected as EDS Volunteers for the event and have provided a Working with Children’s Check.


By adhering to this code, we can create a positive and supportive dance community where all can thrive.


By enrolling at Electrix Dance Studio, you are acknowledging that you have read, understood and agree to comply with the responsibilities set in this code of conduct at all times.
